Supporting Women through

Pregnancy and Birth

As a certified Doula, I am honored to be able to share my expertise with women and families around Butte. I approach birth holistically. As well as physical support during labor, my role is also to act as an advocate for the birthing woman and her family. Contact me to find out more.

About Me

My Story

I have been a labor and delivery nurse for 21 years and continue to work Per Diem in Butte. I love the process of birth and am excited to share my knowledge and experience with you. I look forward to helping birthing families achieve the birth they desire. It has been my privilege to work with families from all backgrounds. I have supported and cared for young teen moms who had to find bravery and courage they didn’t know existed. I have held the hands of single moms, some of whom have come to give birth in secret. During the long hours of labor, I have been able to whisper words of encouragement and help women dig deep within themselves to find the strength they needed to finish their birth. I have stood beside couples and taught dads how to use pressure points, and massage to help ease the pain of birth. Though I have witnessed so many births, I still am in awe of the miracle.

As an experienced Doula, my goal is to give you and your family the information you need to make informed decisions about your pregnancy and labor. Knowledge is only part of the puzzle. I would be honored to come beside you, to help provide the comfort and support needed to achieve your goals. I consider myself blessed to have found such a fulfilling career. I love working with expectant mothers and their families helping them navigate the birth process. Each birth is a unique and special experience. I provide mothers with the encouragement and motivation they need. Sometimes, having someone who has walked the path many times before can provide the courage to achieve things you have only dreamed of.

I have worked in small community hospitals, with less than 20 births per month, and large medical centers, with 500 births per month. Although I love being a nurse, I want to spend more time with birthing families. As a Doula, I will get to spend my time with the family I am serving, providing one-on-one care and comfort. Birth is an incredible journey, and I am humbled to have been a part of so many births.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I married my high school sweetheart in 2002. We have two boys ages 16 and 13. We were also blessed with several foster children, 3 of whom I brought home from the hospital as newborns. All have gone on to be with their forever families or reunited with their birth families. During the summer months, we enjoy hiking, camping, and trips to California's central coast to visit family. Being born and raised 20 minutes from the ocean made adjusting to Montana winters a challenge. Thankfully, I was introduced to cross-country skiing a decade ago. During the winter months, I savor being in God's beautiful creation cross-country skiing. Quilting brings me great joy and I love collecting fabric. My husband and I enjoy traveling and have had the opportunity to travel to several countries. I have also had the privilege of going to Ethiopia on a medical mission trip where we cared for over 700 women and children in 3 days. Chocolate is my favorite food and I have been known to bring home 10 pounds as my only souvenir on more than one occasion. Some of my other indulgences are good Mexican and Italian food, coffee, and red wine.

My Philosophy

I have had the honor of attending hundreds of births over the past 21 years. I believe that birth is a normal, physiological process. My role is to provide you and your family with the emotional and physical support you need to accomplish this journey. My goal is to empower you by providing evidence-based education so that you may make educated decisions about your care during pregnancy and labor. I provide Doula care and education during pregnancy, labor, and the immediate postpartum period. I desire to help families make and capture memories with their infants. I also serve as a bridge between the medical and non-medical worlds: providing compassionate care and education so families can make informed decisions.

Drawing on my knowledge and experience, I will provide, emotional support, physical comfort, and be a resource to make sure you have the information you need to make informed decisions.

During labor, I will provide reassurance and perspective, offering suggestions to help labor progress, and relaxation.

I will support both you and your partner at all times. I can help him feel confident and informed, giving him ideas on how best to support you, and providing him with rest, reassurance, and reminders to keep himself nourished. At no time will I "take over" or deliberately exclude him.

As a doula, I do not perform any medical or clinical tasks, such as blood pressure monitoring, cervical exams, or fetal monitoring. My role is to provide emotional and physical support for the birthing person and their partner during pregnancy and birth.
